Our history

Our history

Les Serres Royales was founded in 1995 by Gilles, Pascal, Stéphan and Cécile Lemieux in Saint-Jérôme, located in the Lower Laurentiens.

Why Royale? Because we wanted to avoid the traditional route of namesake businesses (although Lemieux does have a nice ring to it!). Because the word evokes quality, top of the line, excellence and fineness. Because it sounds classy, yet accessible and pleasant. In short, it gives a little medieval touch that is just right for our tomatoes.

Our first plants were planted in April 1996. At the very beginning, our entire production was focused on pink tomatoes. Different cultivars were then added, including red, yellow and orange vine tomatoes, cocktail tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and grape tomatoes.

You are sure to find the taste you are looking for in one of our Royale tomatoes. What's more, by choosing a local business, you are encouraging local economy and building a lasting client–customer relationship. Think about it!

Our passion

Since its creation, our business has multiply in size; starting at 10,000 square feet and growing to the current 300,000 square feet. And our passion is still growing! Quality produce that tastes great is our driving force.

Our facilities run on state-of-the-art technology and we are always ready and willing to innovate in order to optimize production as well as the quality of our produce. Our 40 gutter-connected greenhouses produce over 125,000 plants in a protected and well-maintained environment equipped with a computer-regulated control system which ensures ideal conditions for tomato plants. Our greenhouses are also equipped with a biomass heating system (recycled wood and forest residues). This allows us to greatly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, thus minimizing the impact on the environment.
